FALSE TIME EP

An artistic expression of love and time, the False Time EP was Aryan's opportunity to tell his own stories through jazz and drumming. Rehearsals, mistakes and discussions were all recorded to give the project a natural and organic feeling.

From the full warm smoothness of "I Can't Get Started" to the fast paced hard bop calypso inspired rhythms of "Strode Rode" to the heavy swing and groove of "Moanin",each piece emulates more feeling and emotion than the last.

Arguable, the true Tour de Force of the EP is "Freedom Jazz Dance": an eclectic, complex, and layered piece that weaves between straight, swung and everything in between. From the saxophone entry to the seamless transitions to the warm round tones backed by impeccable technique, this piece like the EP was a moment of pure magic embellished by the colors of Aryan's creativity.

JAZZ NIGHT @ HQS 459

12/09/17 - HQS 549, Dubai

For its inaugural jazz night, HQS 459, the hottest and latest restaurant and bar on the brand new La Mer strip invited Aryan Oberoi and his jazz trio the Broken 9ths to perform. The night's set list consisted of some of the most loved and iconic jazz standards such as Mr. PC, All of Me, Blue Train and Georgia On My Mind as well as some funk and soul favorites such as "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder and "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone, each with original arrangements and interpretations by the trio. Overall it was a fantastic night full of music which attracted people from the entire beach front for great food, music and atmosphere earning the band a residency for the rest of the winter.

PRINGLES DRUM OFF WINNER

11/11/16 - Mirdif City Centre, Dubai

In November of 2016, Aryan was selected by a panel of judges, made up of local musical artists, to take part in the first ever "Pringles Drum Off" which included the UAE's top 30 young drummers. The 4 semi-finalists participated in a live  and intense drum off on at the Mirdif City Centre with crowds forming around the event. At the end of the night, Aryan won the competition and was awarded the title of the "Best Young Drummer in the UAE". Perhaps what was more important than the prestigious award for Aryan, was the opportunity to meet and perform with other active members of the local music community who all share a common love for drumming.

TWO-TIME WINNER OF THE DUBAI COLLEGE HOUSE MUSIC GRAND FINAL

2017 & 2018

In October of 2017, Aryan participated in his school's leading music competition, competing against the best musicians in his Dubai College. After performing his interpretation of "Shofukan" by Snarky Puppy and an Indian rag fusion duet in the grand final, he was awarded the "Overall House Music Winner" by a panel of conductors and heads of music in the UAE. The following year, he repeated his success winning the entire competition through his own post-bop arrangement of the jazz standard "Freedom Jazz Dance". DC has played a major role in growing and developing Aryan's musical career through the opportunities it has provided and this competition helped Aryan showcase his passion for music.

PIANO MAN JAZZ CLUB

07/23/17 - Safdarjung, Delhi

Jamming and improvising has always been a large part of Aryan's creative process. Therefore, when offered the opportunity to perform and jam with Berklee College of Music graduate musicians at one of the most famous jazz clubs in India, he simply could not refuse. Notable pieces throughout the night included jazz standards such as Cherokee and A Night in Tunisia as well as Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderfull World" with an encore of "Confirmation" by Charlie Parker. Aryan stated "it was an amazing night with a great crowd and i felt honored to be performing with such a talented and experienced group of musicians"

GLOBAL GIFT GALA

12/08/17 - Palazzo Versace Hotel Dubai, UAE

The Global Gift Gala is a fundraising annual event attended by several celebrities aimed at helping international charitable organizations. The winter event held in Dubai saw the Gala partner with Dubai Cares to raise funds for local charities as well as Harmony House in Delhi (an organization that Aryan has had close links with throughout). By performing at the event and auction, he was able to help secure over DHS 2 million for charities. Aryan has always been a strong supporter of giving back to the community so through the performance he was not only able to provide for the local community but also for the children in need in his hometown Delhi.

OPENING EMIRATES LITERATURE FESTIVAL WITH JASON KOUCHAK

10/20/15 - Emirates Literature Festival,  Dubai

In 2015 just prior to the Emirates Literature festival's opening ceremony, Aryan was awarded the opportunity to work and perform with renowned french composer and pianist, Jason Kouchak. Aryan, along with 4 other students studied and rehearsed Mr. Kouchak's latest original piece, "The Sands of Time". The fusion piece combined western classical harmony with Arabian and Middle Eastern rhythms and was an extremely interesting and inspiring work to play and learn for Aryan. The ensemble performed the new piece at the opening ceremony for the 2015 emirates literature festival to a crowd of over 200 people setting the tone for the coming days of diverse festival.
