BEHIND THE MUSIC

Born To Perform

Aryan Oberoi, born in Dubai in 2001, spent much of his early years exploring and testing the boundaries of jazz. After gaining recognition with his band the "Broken 9ths", he became an active member of the local gig scene with numerous performance and events. His improvised and expressive yet controlled performances created a high level of musical awareness and passion felt by the audience.

Prior to his flagship jazz trio, Aryan won the 2016 Pringles Drum Off when he out-drummed the top 30 young drummers in UAE, which earned him the title of the "Best Young Drummer in UAE". Soon after,  Aryan successfully completed his performance diploma from the Trinity College of London with distinction. In 2017, Aryan was invited to the "Piano Man Jazz Club" in New Delhi to perform and improvise with Berklee graduate musicians.

With a diverse musical background by learning and playing drums for over 10 years  his music was never bound by the genre. Aryan has always been inspired by an infinite world of music and culture thus crediting his love for the eclectic genre of jazz to the variety of music he was exposed to at a young age including Indian rags, straight ahead jazz, funk, 80s rock, metal and more. His passion for jazz also largely comes from his respect for world renowned artists such as Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier, Larnell Lewis, Ulysses Owens Jr., Tony Williams, Philly Jo Jones, Michael Jackson, Donald Fagen, Coltrane and many more. He is currently working on a jazz EP project with his own arrangements of jazz standards. Complete with artistic freedom to tell his story through his improvisation, rehearsals and jams, it is set to be released by November 2018
